Amex Gold gets $120 Uber annual credit and Uber Eats Pass

Image
Amex announced today that starting January 1, 2021, their Gold card would be getting a $120 annual Uber credit, which can be used for either Uber rides or Uber Eats.  The $120 credit is actually a monthly $10 credit similar to the $200 annual benefit included with their flagship Amex Platinum card.  In addition, the Amex Gold, Green, and Platinum cards will be getting 12 months of free Uber Eats Pass, which is Uber Eats' subscription based service that gets you free delivery and a 5% discount on orders $15+. How to use the $10 monthly Uber credit Starting January 1, 2021, the $10 monthly Uber credit will be automatically applied to your Uber Cash balance that has your Amex Gold card listed as a payment method.  The $10 credit can be used for Uber rides or Uber Eats.  Credits expire at the end of each calendar month, so it's important to redeem it by the end of each month or you lose that month's $10 credit.  Since the $10 credit is linked to the Amex Gold card and not to a

Many simultaneous Visa/MasterCard gift card deals

There are currently a bunch of Visa and MasterCard gift card deals, with the potential for essentially free cash without even leaving your seat. Office Depot/Max online: $15 off one $300 Visa gift card Via Gift Card Mall online, Office Depot/Max is selling $300 Visa gift cards for $290.95.  The discount is $15 (or 5%), but you'll need to pay a $5.95 purchasing fee.  You still come out on top without needing to go to the store, and trackable USPS shipping is free.  Since this deal is through Gift Card Mall, you unfortunately won't be earning 5x UR (Ultimate Rewards) with the Chase Ink Cash/Plus. Offer link Expires October 22, 2020. Limit one (1) offer per customer The math: $300 -$15 discount + $5.95 purchasing fee = $290.95 Card to use: Any for general purchases such as the Chase Unlimited Office Depot/Max in-store: $15 off $300+ MasterCard gift cards Office Depot/Max actually doesn't sell MasterCard gift cards in $300 increments in-store, so you'd need to buy at least

Amazon 30% off w/1 Amex MR point (more people targeted)

Image
During Prime Day, Amazon had been running 30% off promos for some Amex Membership Rewards (MR) cardholders.  And now, it looks like many more Amex MR cardholders have been targeted for their latest promo of $30 off $100. Offer link (click to see if you were targeted) The nice thing about this new promo is that it can be redeemed on multiple purchases and is good through December 31, 2020, so it'll cover your holiday shopping including Cyber Monday.  Amazon also expanded their generous holiday return policy of January 31, 2021 for purchases made from October 1, 2020, which will give you much more flexibility for your returns.  But Amazon does cap the Amex 30% off promo at a total of 33,333 redemptions, so it's better to use it sooner rather than later. Although Amazon gift cards are excluded from this offer, Amazon's vast inventory of 3rd party gift cards , including Safeway, Uber, Doordash, Best Buy, etc. are eligible, so you could easily score 30% off a gift card.  Since

Did I get a retention offer for the Citi Premier card?

Image
The $95 annual fee for my Citi Premier credit card hit in mid-September, so I decided to give Citi a call to see if they could give me a retention offer to offset the annual fee.  I was transferred to their agent after going through their automated system and saying that I wanted to cancel my card.  As always, the agent asked me why I wanted to cancel my card, and I voiced that the annual fee was too high.  I also asked her if there were any retention offers that could offset the annual fee.  After putting me on a brief hold, she came back with a choice of one of the following offers: $95 statement credit and 1,000 Citi ThankYou Points (TYP) after spending $1,000 per month for the next 3 months 5,000 Citi TYP after spending $1,000 total in the next 3 months I value TYP at around 1.5 cents each, so the 5,000 TYP offer would be just shy of offsetting the annual fee in my opinion.  So I decided to go with the first option that straight up offsets the annual fee with the $95 statement cred

PayPal Digital Gifts deal: $110 Home Depot gift card for $100, stack with Chase Freedom Flex 5x UR

Image
PayPal Digital Gifts is offering a $10 bonus when you buy a $100 Home Depot gift card .  This promo is limited to one per PayPal user, and probably won't last long.  PayPal Digital Gifts issues e-gift cards that can be immediately e-mailed to yourself or the recipient of your choosing, Link to the offer Keep in mind that since this is a PayPal purchase, you can use your old Chase Freedom or Flex card to get 5x Ultimate Rewards (UR) on PayPal purchases (up to $1,500 per card) for this quarter!  I've written about how the Chase Freedom Flex , which currently comes with a 20,000 UR sign-up bonus, is hands down the best no annual fee credit card on the market with its phenomenal cashback categories, and may even spell the impending doom to Chase's own Sapphire line of cards. Quick thoughts Many of us have been taking care of that much needed home maintenance and repair during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Needless to say, our home improvement bills have probably added up.  This is a
