IHG Premier credit card with highest ever 140k sign-up offer!

The Chase IHG Premier credit card is currently offering its highest ever sign-up bonus offer of 140,000 points after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of card membership.  We have seen previous increased sign-up bonuses of 100k and 125k over the standard offer of 80k, but never 140k.

The increased bonus is good through April 2nd, and the $89 annual fee is not waived for the first year.  This card may actually be worth it to hold onto for the long term as it comes with the following benefits:
  • annual free night on your card's anniversary date
  • automatic IHG Platinum elite status as long as you're a cardholder
  • 4th night free on reward stays
  • Global Entry or TSA Precheck credit once every 4 years
  • no foreign exchange transaction fees

As you can see, the annual free night, which is good for hotels costing up to 40k points, more than covers the $89 annual fee.  Although IHG Platinum elite status may not amount to much, it can be matched over to Wyndham Diamond and onto Caesars Diamond for a slew of valuable benefits in places like Vegas.  The Global Entry credit is also worth $100 and can be used once every 4 years, which more than covers the 5-year period that your Global Entry status is good for.  The card also has the following bonus earnings potential:
  • 25x for IHG stays and purchases
  • 2x at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants
  • 1x on all other purchases
The 25x at IHG properties, which can really add up, is actually the combination of the card's 10x bonus and the 15x bonus you receive as an IHG Platinum elite member.  I wouldn't recommend using this card for anything else as IHG points are only worth ~0.7 points each, making the gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants categories equivalent to only ~1.4% back.

The IHG Premier card is a World Elite MasterCard, which means that you will be getting the best exchange rates when traveling abroad, and not to mention MasterCard's new cell phone protection benefit.

Bottom line

You are eligible for the sign up bonus if you do not have this Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this Card in the past 24 months.  In addition, this card is under Chase's 5/24 rule, which means that you won't be approved if you have opened 5 or more credit cards across the board in the past 24 months.  If you're eligible, this is a great card to have not only for the huge 140k sign up offer, but also for its benefits like the anniversary free night, 4th night free, Global Entry credit. Platinum status, and more.  Your Platinum status can also be matched over the Caesars Rewards Diamond status, which includes phenomenal benefits like $100 annual free meal, free shows, and more at Caesars properties.
