Amex Offer for Shop Small: spend 10+, get $5 back, up to 10 times

American Express just widely released an Amex Offer that gets you $5 back whenever you spend $10+ at Shop Small merchants both in-store and online.  This offer can be used up to 10 times through 9/20/2020, but you must enroll with your Amex account online by 7/26/2020.  This offer should be pretty easy for many of us to max out on as there are tons of Shop Small merchants as identified on Amex's dedicated Shop Small website for both in-store and online purchases.


The Shop Small website has a nifty tool that allows your to search for eligible merchants with your location or by name.  If you're looking for a specific merchant like Orenchi's legendary ramen in the Bay Area, the search engine will auto-populate the name once you start typing, and the locations will all show up.


You can also search by inputting cities and addresses.  Since there are so many Shop Small merchants that will overwhelm the map if you do a general city search, it's best to type a specific address or street name.


You may be surprised by how many merchants actually qualify as Shop Small merchants.  For example, even large retail supermarket chains like Ranch 99 count.


How to max out on this Amex Offer

Keep in mind that Amex Offers are one per user, regardless of how many Amex cards you have.  However, authorized users are eligible.  So if you have additional users on your Amex card, which are typically free with the exception of their premium cards like the Amex Platinum, each additional user can also take advantage of this offer 10 times.  And if you feel that you won't be able to max out this offer by 9/20, you can split purchases at checkout into separate $10+ transactions using the same card and get $5 back on each transaction, though this can be time-consuming and annoying, especially if there's a long line behind you.


Bottom line

This is a great Amex Offer that can get you up to 50% at tens of thousands of merchants nationwide both in-store and online.  You can use it up to 10 times for $50 in cash back, and you probably won't have trouble finding merchants that you regularly shop at to begin with.  Remember to first add the Amex Offer to your online account by 7/26 to be eligible.

Park Hyatt Sydney review

For our trip to Australia's east coast, we started off with a 4-night stay in Sydney.  We decided to stay at the Park Hyatt Sydney as it has been consistently rated as one of the best Hyatt luxury properties worldwide.  The hotel, located in the heart of Sydney Harbor at the Rocks, is famous for its stunning views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
