Marriott Bonvoy credit card with increased 100k sign-up offer

Chase is currently running an increased 100k sign-up offer for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card through May 16, 2020.  This is a significant increase over the standard 75k sign-up bonus.  The 100k bonus requires a spending threshold of $5,000 within the first 3 months of card membership, and the $95 annual fee is not waived for the first year.

The card’s earning structure and benefits are as follows:

  • 6X Marriott Bonvoy points on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels.
  • 2X Marriott Bonvoy points on all other eligible purchases.
  • 1 Free Night Award every year after your Card account anniversary. Award can be used for one night (redemption level at or under 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points) at a participating hotel.
  • Enjoy complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status with your Card.
  • Earn Gold status after spending $35,000
  • 15 elite night credits (limited to once per member each year, not once per card)
  • Free in-room premium Wi-Fi
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

As you can see, the annual free night alone at the 35k redemption level more than makes up for the $95 annual fee.  Marriott Bonvoy points are typically valued at around 0.8 cents each, so you should be able to leverage $800 in value with the sign-up bonus with free night hotel stays.  Also, remember that Marriott Bonvoy points can be converted to nearly all mileage programs at a ratio of 3:1, so the 100k sign-up bonus is also worth at least 33k miles with almost any airline carrier.  This card is not eligible to the following applicants:

  • current cardmembers of the Marriott Bonvoy Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier) or Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), or
  • previous cardmembers of the Marriott Bonvoy Premier credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier) or Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card (also known as Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus), who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
In addition, the following applicants are not eligible for the sign-up bonus:
  • are a current cardmember, or were a previous cardmember within the last 30 days, of Marriott Bonvoy American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express);
  • are a current or previous cardmember of either Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card), and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months; or
  • applied and were approved for Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express® Card (also known as The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express) or Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express® Card (also known as the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card) within the last 90 days.
Yes, those are a LOT of restrictions in eligibility for this card, so read them carefully to ensure your eligibility.  And as with all Chase cards, you also cannot be under 5/24, meaning that you also wouldn't be eligible for the card if you opened 5 or more credit card accounts with any and all issuers in the past 24 months.

Bottom line

This is an excellent increased sign-up bonus for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card.  You can typically find the best redemption values in places like Southeast Asia.  And even if you can't find good hotel redemption values, you could always convert your points to miles at a 3:1 ratio.  Are you going to be taking advantage of the increased 100k sign-up offer?
