SFO Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse joining Priority Pass

Effective December 16th, the SFO Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will be joining the Priority Pass network.  Similar to their LAX Clubhouse, access will be limited to the morning between the hours of 6:00 am and 12:15 pm daily.  The SFO Clubhouse is located airside (post-security) in International Terminal A, where most of the non-Star Alliance international flights fly out of.  The Clubhouse represents the second Priority Pass lounge in SFO in addition to the Air France KLM lounge, which is also located in International Terminal A.

The hours of access only in the morning make sense as Virgin Atlantic's two daily SFO-LHR flights depart at 5:00 pm and 9:30 pm, which would prevent Priority Pass members from overcrowding prior to these flight departures.  Previously, the lounge was only open 4 hours before flight departures at 1:00 pm.  If anything, contracting with Priority Pass allows Virgin Atlantic to capitalize on some cash in the mornings by offering limited lounge services and amenities.

As a reminder, the following premium credit cards come with complimentary Priority Pass Select membership:
Amex Platinum
Amex Hilton Honors Aspire
Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Chase Ritz Carlton (discontinued)
Citi Prestige

Chase Reserve and Citi Prestige cardholders can also access the two Priority Pass restaurants in the SFO Terminal 3, although U.S.-issued Amex cardholders no longer have access to Priority Pass restaurants.

Bottom line

It's always nice to see new lounges added to the Priority Pass network.  Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses are pretty solid, even at their international non-hub locations like at SFO and LAX.  Will you be using this lounge the next time you fly out of the SFO International Terminal A?
