New lounge the Club opens at SJC airport - access with Priority Pass

Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) has long had one lounge the Club, which all Priority Pass, LoungeKey, and Lounge Club members as well as international premium class passengers have complimentary access to.  As the number of Priority Pass members has grown over the years with the rise of the Amex Platinum, Chase Reserve, and Citi Prestige cards, so has the over-crowding at the Club at SJC, particularly during peak travel hours before the international flights like ANA, Hainan, and British Airways.  That should change now that SJC has just opened their second the Club lounge this past week.

The original 7,000 square-foot Club is located roughly between Terminals A and B near Gate 15 in Terminal A.  The new 4,000 square-foot Club is located at the opposite end of Terminal A near Gate 8, so passengers departing from the this end of Terminal A will no longer have as long of a trek to get to their respective gates.

The new Club offers similar amenities as the original Club, including a meeting room, full service bar, a shower, and a buffet menu.

In addition, the original Club will be undergoing an expansion renovation soon, which would further help alleviate any over-crowding issues that may occur.  Lounge executives state that approximately 60 percent of their guests are Priority Pass members, and it was not uncommon for the lounge to deny access to Priority Pass members during peak travel hours.  SJC has added services to Tokyo, Beijing, and London over the past few years, so the premium class passengers also added up.

Bottom line

It's always great to see a new lounge open at an airport which has expanded international services over the past few years.  This new addition should alleviate previous over-crowding issues while providing a fresh new environment to relax and replenish before their flight out of SJC.  Both Clubs at SJC will have identical daily opening times from 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM with access permitted 3 hours prior to scheduled flight departure.  A lounge pass can also be purchased for $40 for those without lounge membership.
